Gardens and Flowers

Maggie and I enjoy visiting gardens, and these galleries contain pictures of some of those we have been to.

Maggie works at Marwood Hills gardens, and so there are several galleries from here.

There are also some galleries of our own garden at our house in West Yelland - coming real soon now!!

Landscapes and walks

We do a lot of walking, and these galleries contain pictures of some of the landscapes and seascapes that we have come across during our walks in Devon. There are also some galleries of local views around Fremington, Yelland, Instow and Taw Torridge estuary.

Early in 2011, Maggie became the Events Organiser for the North Devon Plant Heritage group. This is the local section of the The National Council for the Conservation of Plants & Gardens, a self funding charitable organisation working hard to protect and preserve our magnificent plant heritage.

Plant Heritage is the world’s leading garden plant conservation charity. Formerly known as the National Council for the Conservation of Plants & Gardens (NCCPG), Plant Heritage brings together the talents of botanists, horticulturalists and conservationists and the dedication of keen amateur and professional gardeners. Their mission is to encourage the conservation of cultivated plants in the British Isles, supporting and publishing research into these plants, their origins, their historical and cultural importance and their environments, and helping to educate the public in the importance of cultivated plant conservation.

The local groups arrange actvities, such a garden visits and lectures, for their local members, and, as Maggie now organises these for this area, I get to go along as well, with my camera! This gives me the opportunity to visit and photograph gardens that are not normally open to the public, and the galleries in this section contain photographs taken during these vists and events in 2011. As a courtesy, I try to ensure that I always take a few pictures of the event itself, the participlants, and anything else of interest, for the group to use on their websites and in their publicity material - for convenience, these photos are also in this section.

As Events Organiser, Maggie now has responsibility for setting up the program for next year. She (and I, and my camera!) have therefore visited more gardens that will form part of the 2012 programme. I have added a new section for these forthcoming events, containing photos taken during these visits, to give Plant Heritage members a taste of what to expect.
